Did You Know The Bible Is Actually Many Books, and One Message?

Bible Add comments

bible-stackThe Bible may look like one book, but it is actually sixty-six rolled into one. Thirty-nine books make up what we call the Old Testament, and twenty-seven make up the New Testament.  God used many authors–as many as forty–over a time-period of many centuries to write the sixty-six books of the Bible.  This makes each book unique.

The first five books of the Bible are known as the Pentateuch or “Five Books of Moses”.  The Laws of God are known as the Ten Commandments.

But even though each book has its own style and character, each one contributes to God’s life-changing message.  What is that message? Through the Bible, God makes it clear that he loves us and has a plan to save us from the destructive power of sin.

Steve, are there any other versions of the bible outside of those listed in the tags here?

@GG: I was wondering the same thing! So, I’m doing an exhaustive search to find out. Will update the tags as I uncover more versions of the Bible.

Check out The Message bible….very, very easy to read. In contemporary language, written in 2002 by a pastor with a background in Greek and Hebrew (studied as a scholar originally before thinking about becoming a pastor). He found himself translating to his congregation every Sunday for thirty years until he was asked to write a reading bible…not a study bible. I have King James, NIV and amplified versions, and when I feel I just want to read and get an understanding more story-like about the history of what was going on etc…a better overall concept, I find myself going to The Message. http://www.navpress.com and it’s in many Christian book stores.

@AA: Welcome beloved. I went to the site and was pleasantly surprised to find that it is the 2009 winner of the Christian Book Award! Thanks for the reference!
